Kelly Clarkson, come racconta il sito Idolator, è stato uno dei primi nomi ad apparire come potenziali protagonisti della tracklist della colonna sonora di New Moon.
La canzone Did you sembrava un brano perfetto per il film, ma Kelly in realtà aveva scritto una canzone proprio pensando alla storia di New Moon che si chiama Empty as I am.
In un’intervista a MYX Kelly aveva rivelato che ha composto il brano insieme alle sue coriste Kate Rapier e Jill Pickering prima che iniziasse il lavoro di ricerca da parte del curatore delle musiche perchè sono grandissime fan della saga di Twilight e hanno scritto Empty as I am ispirandosi all’atmosfera triste del libro e alle sue similitudini con Romeo e Giulietta.
